De Marco's Electric Studio
An Anglo - Italian Journey

Agostino De Marco
1884 – 1964

Born in Casale, a frazione in the commune of Picinisco, Italy, in the late 1800’s, he and many of his close family emigrated to Scotland, found work, saved and then left to set up cafes and Ice Cream parlours along the south coast of England and Wales. This is their story….

About This Site

During the Great War Agostino De Marco and his brother Eugenio owned a cafe at 23 Snarsgate St., Dover. Agostino also had a photographic buisness there named ‘Dimarco’s Electric Studio’ After that war, he transferred the studio to his house in Picinisco where it was unfortunately destroyed during WWII. The 300+ photographs on this site are mostly scanned from surviving family albums.

I am Agostino’s grandson and author of this site. I have also researched or written the stories and scanned, restored, enhanced and captioned the many photos here. I hope you enjoy viewing the site. It is free to view and is not supported by advertising.

Site Published By – Nick De Marco KC

Nick, the great grandson of Agostino De Marco, has a fine villa and vineyard in Colleruta directly opposite the house built by Beniamino Crolla, (his great grandmother’s father). Nick visits Piscinisco regularly. He is a well-known lawyer and an accomplished photographer who has contributed a gallery to the site. He provides funding for hosting and site maintenance and without his help and encouragement this site would not exist.
